"'Diabetes made me lose both my legs', Elifazi Savunyu, 71 years old, from Mwanza, Tanzania
Elifazi Savunyu is 71 years old, lives in Mwanza, Tanzania, is married and has four children.
In 2018, he discovered he was diabetic and in the same year, his left leg had to be amputated due to the disease. In 2019 it was the turn of his right leg, making Elifazi a bilateral amputee.
On 3 December 2020, he heard about the existence of the Mwanza Prosthetics & Orthotics Workshop - the orthopedic center opened by SwissLimbs in 2018 - and the promotion organised on International Day of Disabled Persons, during which 200 legs were donated, so he went there in the hope of being able to get two prostheses.
He is now very happy to have received his new legs from the MPOW, thanks to the support of SwissLimbs.
